Following the American Civil War, the Grand Army of the Republic became the largest and most influential United States veterans’ organization. Established in 1866 and, at its peak, comprised of more than 450,000 members at 7,500 posts nationally, the GAR left a profound impact upon postwar U.S. culture, well into the 20th century. On Saturday, September 5, join us on Seminary Ridge as we welcome those who bring the GAR’s legacies back to life.
Featuring living historians and authentic GAR artifacts, this event will provide Seminary Ridge Museum visitors a chance to interact with those passionate about telling the story of Union veterans who fought at Gettysburg and beyond.
